Brillant! My five-year old reads at a first-grade level!This book is phenomenal. It teaches children a modernized way of reading. When I was in school, we learned invididual sounds and later placed them with words. This book teaches sounds together of common words in the English laungauge. For example, instead of teaching S had a sssss sound, it teaches the letters s typically go with such as sh sc sk..etc..HOWEVER, your child must have a foundation of letter sounds and ability to recognize all letters in the alphabet before starting this book. It is also helpful if you child is familiar with sight words such as if and but you…etc.Anyway, I finished this book over the summer with my five-year old before he started kindergarden and yes, he is intelligent, but he is breezing through school. He scored the highest Tier level with the school’s reading assessment and next year, the teacher thinks he will be elegible for the gifted program. This book has helped him have a strong foundation in reading. Once they can read, they get through the first few grades easily, and this book doesn’t take much time per day! I am now doing addition, subtraction, word problems, geometry, and reading level two. You need about 10-15 minutes a day to complete an activity with your child, and let me tell you it is worth it. If your child needs extra help, try these books! You may not need to pay a tutor. BE patient though. Some of the lessons can be a little challenging, but they can easily be worked through. I am amazed at what these books can help your child accomplish. The teaching method employed is just brilliant! I will def. be using these books with my two year old! Thank you KUMON!
