DescriptionA path through a larch wood towards an occluded destination. This is an early painting by Bawden, and experimental: larch trees are conifers, with spiky needles. And when they grow in serrated rows, bunched up together, they can form shapes which look like tweed woven in a herringbone pattern. In order to achieve this Bawden has scraped the surface of the paper, so that the paper both depicts and contains the marks he makes.
